Sanctuary

This body of work investigates home as a fluid, memory-mapped sanctuary. These prints archive a week spent at the historic Villa Marguerite and Chateau de La Napoule compound during an immersive art retreat. American artists Henry and Marie Clews restored the chateau as a private, haven to escape the outside world.

For a brief window, this exclusive estate became a domestic foundation for shared ideation among a transient creative community. Printed from digital negatives, the images utilize the cyanotype process to transform real architecture into ethereal, monochromatic blueprints of time. This choice of medium employs the historical blueprint process to construct an emotional architecture of a momentary home. In the garden and entryways, imagery influenced by a vintage French mirror visually layers the intricate, reflective nature of memory. Ultimately, this story of community transforms a fleeting residency into a monumental recording of belonging.
